Sixty is where skin quality takes over

By 60 the dominant signal is no longer folds but the surface itself. Skin has lost a meaningful share of its collagen and much of its ability to hold water, so it reads as thinner and finer-textured, with crepey areas under the eyes and on the eyelids. Pigmentation from decades of sun becomes visible as uneven tone and age spots, particularly on the forehead and cheekbones.

Structure keeps shifting too. The eye socket has widened, so the upper lid looks heavier and the under-eye hollow deepens. Hair is largely gray and noticeably finer, and eyebrows often thin at the outer edge, which subtly changes the expression of the whole face.

Why we age you in two steps

Ask a model to jump straight from a 25-year-old selfie to a 60-year-old portrait and it tends to reach for a stock idea of an older person, losing the details that make you recognisable. Chaining fixes this: your photo becomes a 50-year-old, and that 50-year-old becomes a 60-year-old. Each hop is small enough that identity survives, which is the entire point of an age preview.

How to get a result worth sharing

Age progression models read the geometry of your face, so the input photo decides most of the quality. A few habits make the difference between an uncanny result and one that genuinely looks like you.

• Face the camera straight on. Profiles and steep angles confuse the model about bone structure.
• Use even, soft light. Harsh shadows get interpreted as wrinkles and exaggerate the aging.
• Keep the face large in the frame, roughly a head-and-shoulders crop, and avoid heavy zoom or beauty filters.
• Skip sunglasses, hats and hair covering the forehead. The hairline and brow carry a lot of the aging signal.
• A neutral or lightly smiling expression works better than a wide grin, which flattens the very lines the model needs to age.
